Sejak gempa mengguncang negara miskin Karibia itu, sejumlah anak yang menjadi yatim-piatu, telah dikirimkan ke Eropa untuk diadopsi. Namun beberapa anak lainnya bernasib lebih pahit.
“Kami telah mendokumentasikan, bisa dibilang sekitar 15 kasus anak-anak yang menghilang dari rumah sakit dan tidak sedang bersama keluarga mereka saat itu,” kata penasihat UNICEF Jean Luc Legrand seperti dilansir News.com.au, Sabtu (23/1).
“UNICEF telah bekerja di Haiti selama bertahun-tahun, dan kami tahu masalah perdagangan anak di Haiti yang ada sebelumnya. Dan sayangnya, banyak dari jaringan perdagangan ini punya hubungan dengan ‘pasar’ adopsi internasional,” kata Legrand.
Gempa berkekuatan 7 Skala Richter yang mengguncang Haiti pekan lalu diperkirakan telah menewaskan lebih dari 200 ribu orang. Gempa ini disebut-sebut sebagai yang paling dahsyat dalam sejarah di wilayah itu.

Ratusan ribu orang lainnya saat ini masih dirawat di rumah sakit karena mengalami luka-luka. Bahkan hampir setengah juta jiwa penduduk Haiti kehilangan tempat tinggal akibat bencana ini

Telenovelas - If you're like many people, you've used tools like a household chores checklist to try and improve the organization in your home, but have been disappointed in the results. There can be many reasons for this, but one of the most common is believing in the magical powers of charts and checklists.

Sad to say...but there is no magic!

Chores and checklists don't have any power to change a household on their own. It's a little like lovingly displaying a hammer on the ground of an open lot and 'expecting' a house to materialize!

The real magic of a household chores checklist and related tools is in their ability to organize your own efforts towards improvement. This is most effective when you take the time to do some upfront planning to build success into the process. Done consistently and correctly, your success rate with these types of tools will skyrocket!

-- Pick your chores checklist.

There are several free or fee-based household checklists available online. Do a little searching and find one you like. Remember, no matter what you choose, you'll need to do some customization of your checklist.

Fill out the checklist for your particular household's situation. I find this part of the process works best if you can give yourself a few days to finish it because you will keep remembering tasks you want to include. That's good as the more complete you can be at this stage of the process, the better.

-- Take a good look at what you've got.

With paper in hand, consider the tasks you've written on your chores checklist so far. Ask yourself the following.

* What supplies are needed to complete this task?

* Will double supplies be needed (one set on each floor of the home, perhaps) to be most efficient?

* Do I currently have supplies that are outdated or outmoded?

* Can this task be eliminated altogether? (For example, are you simply 'collecting' magazines and catalogs instead of reading them? Canceling your subscriptions means you never have to decide what to do with them after they're in your home; the clutter is simply gone.)

The answers to these questions will enable you to have the right supplies in the right amount available when the day comes to put your plan into action.

-- Organize according to age and ability.

Almost everyone in a home can help out with household chores. The trick is to match expectations with abilities. Using your checklist, determine appropriate chores for the preschoolers, elementary-aged, pre-teens and teens in your home. When you're considering the very young members of your family, break a chore down into parts. Usually one or two of those parts will be manageable by a preschooler.

Also consider temperaments. Would your family rather have assigned chores so they know exactly what's expected of them each and every week? Or do they prefer variety, mixing it up a little? Having a family conference at this stage is often helpful. The trick is to maintain that the only choices revolve around HOW the chores are done...not WHETHER they're done.

After all the kids have their chores mapped out, use your household chore checklist to assign the remainder of the chores to the adults in the household. Let me be clear, I'm NOT suggesting that kids should do more chores than adults. I AM saying that often it's easier to start by assigning lesser abilities and work your way up from there. Which means, the adults will pick up any and all slack, plus supervise, and must also shoulder the more difficult chores.

Of course, if you don't have any children, then the adults will do all the chores. But there will be fewer bodies to pick up after, too!

-- Consider the details.

Now's the time to sniff out problems with your chore system. Take a look at what you've established so far and think about possible obstacles that will inevitably come up. Who is your biggest complainer? Who has schedule conflicts that will make it difficult to get his or her chores completed?

Consider also the timing of your household chores checklist. If your evenings are already jam-packed, squeezing in a chores list is aiming at failure. If you're serious about making this work, then you'll need to consider some changes. Perhaps you can establish a thirty minute family chore time each evening right after dinner. Or make Saturday morning be clean-the-house time before everyone scatters to their activities.

The point is, take an honest look at your current lifestyle and figure out when and how these chores are going to fit in. If you don't, that chores checklist will be disappointing you yet again.

Aim for improvement, not perfection. You know what I mean. If you are looking at household chores checklists because your home is in disaster-mode right now, you cannot expect it to turn completely around in a week's time. People just don't work that way!

That's why aiming for making improvements (as opposed to perfection) actually works. It's measurable and tangible and gets everyone a little more excited about the whole process. Then you keep on aiming for incremental improvements and you help everyone build on new habits.

RIM over iPhone and Blackberry

Triunfo Del Amor - Camera maker Kodak has said it will sue Apple and Research In Motion (RIM), the makers of the iPhone and Blackberry, over technology used in their handsets.

Kodak has filed a complaint with the US International Trade Commission (ITC).

It alleges the iPhone and Blackberry use technology for previewing pictures that infringe Kodak patents.

It has also filed two separate suits against Apple that claim infringements of patents relating to digital cameras and certain computer processes.

Kodak has asked the ITC to bar both firms from shipping the phones and has asked for undisclosed monetary damages.

RIM and Apple declined to comment.

Legal scrutiny

"We've had discussions for years with both companies in an attempt to resolve this issue amicably, and we have not been able to reach a satisfactory agreement," said Laura Quatela, chief intellectual property officer at Kodak.

"In light of that, we are taking this action to ensure that we protect the interests of our shareholders and the existing licensees of our technology."

The patent for Kodak's picture previewing technology has already been the subject of one dispute.

On 17 December 2009, an ITC judge ruled that camera-enabled phones made by Samsung infringed upon the Kodak patent.

The separate filing against Apple has also been scrutinised in court in a case against Sun Microsystems.

In that case, a federal jury determined that Sun's Java programming technology had infringed Kodak's patents. Sun later agreed to pay Kodak in return for a license for the patents at issue.

Apple is currently in the middle of a legal dispute with phone giant Nokia.

In October, Nokia alleged that the iPhone infringed 10 of its "fundamental" patents relating to wireless technologies.

Apple countered with its own lawsuit in December, accusing Nokia of copying its technology.

Since then Nokia has complained to the ITC and launched a further legal action that alleges "virtually all" of Apple's products infringe on its patents.

Tim Ghana Resah Setelah Serangan Kemarin

Bikini, Ghana minta keamanan lebih bagi pemainnya di Piala Afrika di Angola menyusul serangan maut pada Jumat atas regu Togo, kata pemerintah pada Minggu.

Ghana adalah salah satu regu bermarkas di daerah kantong kaya minyak Cabinda, tempat pemberontak menyatakan bertanggungjawab atas penyergapan pada Jumat itu, yang menewaskan sedikit-dikitnya dua orang dan melukai beberapa lagi.

Presiden Ghana John Atta-Mills meminta keamanan lebih bagi pemain menjelang Piala Afrika itu, yang dijadwalkan dimulai di Angola pada Minggu, kata pernyataan Menteri Penerangan Zita Okaikoi.

"Keamanan pemain kami dan negara lain peserta sangat penting, sehingga memerlukan keamanan tambahan," tambahnya.

Pemain Togo memutuskan tinggal dan mengikuti kejuaraan itu, tapi pemerintah di Lome memerintahkan mereka segera pulang.

"Kepala perhubungan Stanislas Ocloo dan wakil pelatih Abalo Amnalete tewas pada pukul 04.00 pagi ini," kata petugas pers CAF untuk Togo, Kodjo Samlan, setelah tiba di Cabinda bersama para rekannya dari Persatuan Sepak Bola Togo.

Sembilan pemain dan pengurus dilaporkan luka akibat iringan bus itu diserang saat melintas masuk Cabinda dari Republik Kongo untuk pertandingan di Piala Afrika.

Serangan tersebut diakui dilakukan Kubu Pembebasan Daerah Kantong Cabinda (FLEC), yang selama beberapa dasawarsa memperjuangkan kemerdekaan wilayah kaya minyak tersebut, namun terpotong dari wilayah Angola oleh Republik Demokrasi Kongo.

Titik mirip noda itu merupakan bintik matahari yang diproyeksikan oleh teropong Celestron 8 mm.

"Bila ada bintik matahari yang muncul di bidang kertas ini, kemudian ditandai. Jadi kita tidak mengamati lewat teropong langsung dengan mata," jelas petugas itu saat berada di salah satu kubah teropong SPD milik Lembaga Penerbangan dan Antariksa Nasional (Lapan).

Dari SPD yang didirikan pada 1975 tersebut, perilaku matahari terus dipantau. Ada kalanya bintik matahari atau sunspot muncul banyak dalam satu hari. Namun, sering pula sunspot itu tidak terjadi sama sekali. Sunspot terbentuk dari medan magnet di matahari, yang berpotensi menimbulkan ledakan (flare) dan badai matahari.

Fenomena badai matahari itulah yang ramai dibicarakan menyusul ramalan kiamat pada 2012 dan film mengenai bencana besar di bumi berjudul "2012". Menurut para peneliti Lapan, badai matahari memang diperkirakan terjadi pada tahun itu, namun tidak akan menimbulan efek seperti yang digambarkan oleh film garapan Rolland Emerich.

Mereka mengatakan perkiraan waktu datangnya badai itu belakangan berubah, karena hingga kini sunspot dalam jumlah besar belum muncul. Pada Kamis (11/12), sekitar pukul 15.00 WIB, mendung sedang menutup langit Sumedang, sehingga pengamatan terkendala. Namun sebelumnya, saat sinar sang surya tak terhalang apapun, beberapa bintik matahari terpantul pada bidang kertas yang diberi lingkaran itu.

"Datanya dikirim ke Bandung untuk diolah," kata petugas itu merujuk kantor Lapan yang berada di Bandung.

Sesungguhnya pengamatan matahari di SPD Tandjungsari tidak hanya dilakukan
dengan teropong Celestron buatan Australia itu saja. Banyak alat-alat lain yang dipasang di area seluas lapangan sepakbola itu untuk mendeteksi gejala-gejala matahari.

Sebut saja misalnya Solar Radio Spectograph. Peralatan mirip parabola ini untuk mendeteksi matahari berdasarkan gelombang radiomagnetik yang dipancarkan matahari. Setiap ada ledakan atau angin di matahari, alat ini dapat menangkap fenomena antariksa itu dalam waktu 8 menit saja.

"Alat ini arah gerakannya mengikuti pergerakan matahari," kata Kepala Bidang Matahari dan Antariksa Lapan Clara Y Yatini.

Clara menjelaskan, ada dua Solar Radio Spectograph yang dipunyai SPD
Tandjungsari. Band anthena C/D dengan kekuatan 18 MHz, dan satu lagi Band
Anthena B berkekuatan 57 MHz.

Berbeda dengan teropong Celestron, Solar Radio Spectograph dapat dioperasikan meski cuaca sedang buruk. Namun, tentu saja, bila malam hari, alat ini tidak digunakan untuk memantau perubahan matahari.

"Tapi kita sudah bekerjasama dengan stasiun pengamatan internasional," kata Clara.

Di sebelah Solar Radio Spectograph terdapat alat bernama Ionozonda. Ionozonda itu difungsikan untuk menganalisa badai ionosfer. Kemudian ada sekumpulan alat-alat yang pasang di area bernama "Taman Meteor". Di antaranya adalah Champbel Stokes layaknya bola kristal untuk mengukur berapa jam matahari bersinar tiap tahun. Kemudian sensor NO2 dan SO2 untuk mengukur curah hujan.

Di bagian kanan kubah teropong Celestron ada pula kubah teropong NGT. Teropong ini dipakai untuk pengamatan bintang pada malam hari.

Apakah pengunjung bisa mencoba mengintip matahari di sana? Tenang saja, SPD
Tandjungsari menyediakan satu teropong yang dikhususkan buat pengunjung, yakni Celestron Nextstar. Teropong yang berdekatan dengan pagar "Taman Meteor" itu satu generasi lebih tinggi dibanding Celestron.

"Banyak pengunjung yang datang ke ini. Biasanya anak-anak sekolah," kata seorang petugas SPD.
